Dear friends,
Olá! Hello! Cześć!
I’m Beatriz, the new one! Nice to meet you! Here's my testimony so far to you. Two months ago I left my city (Lisbon - in Portugal, of course) to accomplish two personal goals, to be an international volunteer and to live abroad. I was looking for an international experience to get out of my comfort zone, to develop skills in a multicultural environment, and to meet new people.
First, I must confess that arriving in Poland was a huge culture shock and the first weeks were indeed challenging in all aspects. The weather (so cooooold), the serious faces, the lack of English by Polish people, and this new language were the main challenges to me. Also, I felt snow for the first time here (in 21 years of my existence :P) and it made me very happy!
Then, I have to say that joining a project already started was a bit intimidating. Questions like "What will others think of me?", "Will I make friends quickly?", "Will I adapt easily?" or "Will I be able to keep up with my colleagues?" crossed my mind.
In addition, the feeling of freedom and independence during these past few months is inexplicable. As well as the feeling of overcoming and conquering each day. I am living in a country completely opposite to mine, managing my money, taking on new responsibilities, sharing a flat for the first time, cooking on my own, managing emotions away from home.
However, I couldn't be happier with my progress so far. I'm traveling a lot, meeting a lot of people, already loving my mates, improving my English skills and last but not least, feeling like I'm in heaven when I eat Polish food (a pączek a day keeps the doctor away eheh).
I’m having the time of my life.
XOXO
